At least 12 mourners died and several others were seriously wounded when the vehicle on which they were travelling for a funeral was involved in an accident last week-end between Nkondjock and Bafang in Western Cameroon, medical sources told panapress on Monday. A lorry belonging the Gendarmerie carrying 29 people travelling to Nkondjock for the funeral veered off the road before crashing on its side. Nine mourners died on the spot while three others died later. Seventeen people who were injured were taken to Ad Lucem de Bafang-Banka Hospital where they have been placed in intensive care. One of the survivors, David Stéphane Koumba, said the driver was speeding at the time of the accident. However, other people were superstitious saying the accident occurred because th e two families of the dead person did not agree on where it was to be buried.
