An aircraft operated by Nigeria’s flag carrier, Virgin Nigeria, made an emergency landing at the Port Harcourt international airport in the oil producing Niger Delta region Wednesday evening, police sources said.
No casualty was reported in the incident, which occurred at about 5.30 pm local time, as the passengers were said to have jumped out through the emergency exits as soon as the plane came to a halt. It was not immediately known whether the plane was on a domestic or international flight when the incident happened. The airport was recently opened after it was closed for repairs in the wake of a horrific plane crash that killed 107 people, most of them school children returning home for the Christmas holidays, in December 2005.
