Africa Judo Championship to be hosted by Morocco

The 29th African Judo Championship, which would serve as qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics, will take place from 15-18 May in Agadir, southern Morocco. Organisers said on Tuesday in Rabat that the competition was open to the 50-member countries of the African Judo Confederation, which was organising the tournament. However, only some 30 countries could participate and 19 had so far confirmed th eir participation, they said. The men’s divisions are: -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, +100kg and Open. The women’s divisions are: -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, +78kg and Open. The organisers said 35 judokas (21 men and 14 women) would represent Africa at the Beijing Olympic Games.
