University of Zambia unionised workers have temporarily called off their strike in order to allow for dialogue with management. University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) General Secretary Fenison Mwape disclosed that workers decided to call off the strike following a meeting with management. Unionised workers at the University of Zambia in Lusaka have been on strike for a week, demanding additional funding for the institution for their improved conditions of service. According to Mwape, an agreement was reached by the three workers’ unions at the university to suspend the strike to pave way for dialogue. He said the negotiations were expected to be concluded this week, but warned that if the outcome of the negotiations was not satisfactory, the workers would resume the strike.
