Four persons died while five others were injured in an accident involving the official convoy of Governor Segun Oni of Nigeria’s South-west Ekiti state on Sunday, the local press reported. The accident occurred when a car rammed into a government bus that was conveying some government officials to a ceremony, which the Governor was billed to attend, at Aiyegbaju Ekiti. Two of the deceased were said to be government officials. Spokesman for the Governor, Moses Jolayemi, confirmed the accident, saying it involved the advance team in the Governor’s convoy. Accidents involving convoys of public officials are becoming more frequent in Nigeria, primarily because of the excessive speed and recklessness of such convoys.
