Vice president: Murder of Hydara still being investigated

Gambia’s Vice President Aja Isatou Saidy on Wednesday as sured the Gambia Press Union that investigations into the murder of Deyda Hydara , a journalist, were still ongoing. She also said the government did not know the whereabouts of Chief Ebrima Manneh , another journalist, who disappeared in the West African country. Mrs Saidy who was speaking when the newly elected executive of the Gambia Press Union paid a courtesy call on her in State House, Banjul, noted that there was mistrust between the government and the press union . She asked the Department of State for Communications, Information and Technology to work with the union on issues of access, capacity building and training of journalists. Ndey Tapha Sosseh, President of GPU, expressed worry over the lack of progress in investigations into the murder of Hydara, the case of missing Manneh and the closure of Sud FM, Citizen FM, Citizen newspaper and the Independent newspaper by security personnel without court orders.
