South African president Thabo Mbeki will visit the Zimbabwean capital on Friday according to AFP. Mbeki has been chosen as mediator between the two main parties involved in the political crisis Zimbabwe has been going through over the last month. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai beat the ruling party in both parliamentary and presidential elections. However, Robert Mugabe the current president of Zimbabwe claims that the opposition leader did not obtain the 50% of votes he needs to avoid a runoff. It is the first time since the elections that Mbeki, whose role was criticized as pro-Mugabe, visits the country.
