Nigeria’s Super Eagles Saturday successfully beat the Leone Stars in the 2010 World Cup /African Nations Cup qualifiers. Joseph Yobo scored an only goal in the 89th minute, leaving Sierra Leone’s national soccer squad in disarray. Leone Stars failed to take advantage of the two golden opportunities it had soon after the match began. The Super Eagles did not get their bearing at the start of the game, except on few occasions the ball got into their hands when they not only displayed supremacy, by possessing it for good, until they made good use of it when the ball was tucked into the host’s net. As the ball was rushed to the center circle for a pass by the Stars, the final whistle was blown. Yobo not only dampened the ego of the Sierra Leoneans, but undermined the usual outcome of Nigeria /Sierra Leone encounters which had always left the Super Eagles down. Sierra Leoneans are now left with these words: “Leone Stars”, said the first speaker, “courage and determination”, replied the second speaker.
