Egypt and India have signed a defence agreement as part of both nations’ continued relationship as members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Egypt’s Defence Ministry said. The agreement was signed at the second Indo-Egypt Joint Defence Committee conference in India. During the conference, a six-member Egyptian defence delegation held the talks that led to the signing of the pact. After the signing, the Egyptian delegation met with Indian Defence Secretary Vijay Singh to discuss its implementation. India said after the signing that it was moving forward on a policy of friendly relations and peaceful coexistence with all its neighbors, based on the “Panchsheel” principle, which was launched by the late Indian President Nehru. Egypt expressed the hope that the new found military cooperation would continue to enrich “all segments” of their relationship. The two nations have been increasing economic cooperation in recent years.
