Kenya’s flamboyant striker Dennis Oliech put his country on the road to a World Cup and African Nations cup qualification Saturday with an 88th minute goal against the Warriors of Zimbabwe. His goal two minutes from the final whistle plus a 12th minute goal scored by teammate MacDonald Mariga took Kenya to a 2-0 victory over the Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe’s Warriors went down 2-0 fighting against the perpetual losers of international football, the Harambee Stars, who started their campaign for the World Cup qualifier on a 2-1 loss against Namibia. A revamped Zimbabwe side took the hosts to task in most of the second half after striker Mariga put Kenya ahead with a 12th minute goal in the joint World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Nyayo stadium. Oliech slotted in the second goal with just two minutes from the final whistle and the victory ensured that the Kenyan side was on course to topping its group depending on the outcome of the Guinea-Namibia match. The World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, pit the two teams in a battle to lead their group and earn the ultimate ticket to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
