Nigeria’s giant mobile telecommunications operator, Globacom, has been granted licence to operate GSM mobile telephony in Ghana, bringing to six the number of operators in the country. An Accra-based radio station quoted sources at the National Communications Autho rity (NCA) as saying the licence went for $50 million and that the Nigerian company emerged tops of the “highly competitive” bidding process largely for its “technical presentation, extensive roll-out plan and pedigree”. It said the NCA’s Board of Directors per a letter dated 12 June, 2008, notified the management of Glo Mobile Ghana of their success.
