Passengers die as commercial bus plunges into Ogunpa channel in Nigeria

At least five passengers were feared dead when a commercial mini bus plunged into the Ogunpa channel in Nigeria’s South-west city of Ibadan Wednesday, the local press reported. The fully-loaded bus ran out of control and fell into the channel through the unguarded side of the Ogunpa bridge, the report said, quoting witnesses. While the number of casualty was uncertain, a policeman at the scene said five persons died. Many lives have been lost in similar accidents on the bridge, derisively referred to as ”the death bridge”, because it lacks well-reinforced protective railings that can prevent vehicles from plunging into the river below.
