Key football stakeholders have written to Sierra Leone’s National Sports Council to ask for the dissolution of the current executive committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA). In the letter, they also called on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to appoint an interim executive that would oversee the conduct of a free, transparent and credible elections of new executive to run the FA for the next four years. The letter followed the last minute postponement of a congress that had been scheduled for 27-28 June to elect a new executive. After arriving for the congress at the country’s Football Academy at Kingtom, West of the capital city of Freetown, the delegates were shocked to learn that the congress had been postponed to 17-18 July. Explaining the postponement, the FA said in a statement: “The secretariat has not been able to prepare the financial records regarding the disbursement of FIFA funds, auditors report and minutes of the last congress held four years ago in Makeni northern District Headquarter town.” In an interview with some of the stakeholders, they described the current executive of the FA as very “disrespectful”.
