Kenya has suffered another defeat in the ongoing Africa Under-21 Hockey Championships as it was thrashed 5-0 by host Egypt in a one-sided men`s match in Cairo Saturday. The East Africans got off to a slippery start Friday in the event that doubles as the 2009 World Cup qualifier, succumbing 3-2 to Ghana in their opening match. Ghana, which trained under floodlights in Cairo a week before the championships, had an edge over the Kenyans, who struggled to adjust to the floodlights. According to Kenya team officials, the team was playing under floodlights for the first time. In other matches, South Africa ran over hapless Libya 17-0 while Egypt hammered Sudan 27-0. In the women`s category, Kenya also got off to a shaky start Friday when it was beaten 3-1 by Zimbabwe. The East Africans, however, regained the winning formula to pip Nigeria 1-0 in their subsequent match. The Kenyan women`s side was scheduled to lock horns with host Egypt Sunday, while its male counterpart would meet Sudan.
