A footballer with a local club in Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos slumped and died after a rigorous training session on Sunday, the local press reported Tuesday. The report said Godwin Okafor, a member of Creator Football Club in Ijanikin, Lagos, had trained with his teammates for several hours at a field in the area since 7am before complaining of dizziness. Though his teammates quickly moved to assist him, he later slumped on the pitch and was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. Lagos police spokesman Frank Mba confirmed the death of the footballer, whose corpse was later deposited at a public mortuary for autopsy.
