Four Nigerian men have been arrested and face possible deportation from Zimbabwe, after falsely marrying local women to obtain residence permits, immigration officials said Monday. They said the four were part of a large ring of foreigners who were fraudulently obtaining citizenship and residence permits to live in the country. One of the four even married two Zimbabwean women in a space of two weeks. They all later brought in their legal Nigerian wives after obtaining residence permits. “We confirm the arrest of the four after we busted a syndicate of foreigners who are using marriages of convenience to obtain residence and work permits in Zimbabwe,” Evans Siziba, the country’s top immigration officer, said. “We have the four in custody and they will be deported soon,” he said.
