A police station in central Harare in Zimbabwe was bombed at the weekend, but no one was killed or injured in the attack, police said on Monday. Police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena said two unexploded bombs were later recovered from Harare Central Police Station, the capital’s biggest police facility. He said the target of the attack was the offices of the Criminal Investigations Department of the police, but that the identity of the attacker or motive was yet to be established. The attack took place late afternoon on Saturday, and damaged more than 10 offices in the building.
Bvudzijena said police and army bomb experts had recovered fragments from the attack, and were examining them for possible clues. Such attacks are rare in Zimbabwe, even though the country has been in turmoil over recent elections.
