About 30 passengers are feared dead after a mini-bus plunged into Aswa River on the Gulu and Pader district border in northern Uganda Tuesday evening, police said. The bus was heading to Kitgum from Gulu, the main town in the war-affected region, when the accident occurred about 7pm local time. “The cause of the crash had not been established, we are still investigating,” police spokeswoman Judith Nabakooba said on telephone.
She added: “The number of passengers aboard the ill-fated bus was not yet known, neither the number of the dead nor survivors.” The accident is the third this year on the rusty bridge, which has no rail guards.
