Mauritius announces presidential elections

The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, announced Wednesday, during a special session of the Parliament, that Mauritians would go to the polls 19 September to chose a new president. The current president’s term of office will end 30 September. In Mauritius, the President has no executive powers as the country is run on a Parliamentary system where the Prime Minister, from the parliamentary majority, wields power.
