With the arrival in Bamako of four more coaches from Havana, the number of Cuban sports experts in Mali is now 168, Mali’s Youth and Sports Ministry said. The experts are basketball, handball and volleyball coaches and a physiotherapist. Cuban and Mali are cooperating in the fields of medicine, sports, culture, education, agriculture, irrigation, economy, building and public works, sugar industry, and law. Cuba will soon open an ophthalmology centre in Bamako, which will necessitate the training of 46 ophthalmologists who will sustain the centre. Under the arrangement, about 100 Malian specialists in various fields, including neurosurgery, is expected to be trained before 2010.
