A Russian firm Thursday signified interest in investing in the Nigeria’s comatose national communications giant, M-Tel/Nitel just as Vice President Goodluck Jonathan reaffirmed the determination of the Federal Government to ensure that the interest of Nigerians is protected in the privatization of the outfit . Vice President Jonathan was reacting when he received the management of the Moscow-based Telecommunication Investment Company – Altimo (Alfa Group) – led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alexey Kousmichoff. The Vice President, who noted that landline telephony was more widespread and cheaper, again assured that the Federal Government would make the M-tel/Nitel privatization very transparent. He stated that Government would only partner with foreign investors who have shown genuine competence and were financially capable of consummating the deal.
