Nigerian Breweries Plc declares huge interim dividend increase

Nigerian Breweries Plc, has declared an interim dividend of 7.56 billion naira, with dividend of N1.00 per ordinary share of 50 kobo to each of its shareholders. The dividend represents an increase of 82% over the 4.159 billion naira paid as interim dividend in 2007, which translated to 55 kobo per ordinary share of 50 kobo in the share capital of the company. The dividend, which is subject to deduction of withholding tax at the appropriate rate, will be paid on 17 October, 2008, to all shareholders whose names appear on the Register of Members of the Company at the close of business on Wednesday, 8 October, 2008. Earlier in July, the company declared a total of 18.1 billion naira as Profit before Tax (PBT) for the half year ended 30 June, 2008. This represents a 43% increase over the 12.7 billion naira declared as PBT for the same period in 2007. The turnover for the half-year was 68.1 billion naira, representing a 31% increase over the 51.9 billion naira achieved for the corresponding period of 2007.
