Gambian official to send butchers to prison for not obeying President

A Mayor in Gambia’s second capital of “Serre Kunda”, Yan kuba Colley, has vowed to jail butchers who fail to respect presidential ultimatum over the reduction in price of meat, national broadcaster, Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), reported Sunday. President Yahya Jammeh recently issued an ultimatum, warning butchers in Gambia to reduce the price of meat or face “serious consequences”. “I will send you to ‘Mile 2’ (Central Prison) if you fail to comply with the President’s ultimatum for the price of meat to go down,” Colley reportedly threatened some butchers. “We will ensure zero tolerance on butchers in this municipality to see to it that they comply with the ultimatum. There will be zero tolerance,” the mayor insis t ed. When Jammeh issued the ultimatum, some butchers defied the order and argued that they could not reduce the price.
