Zambia’s opposition Patriotic Front (PF) leader Micheal Sata Tuesday successfully filed his nomination papers to stand for the 30 October presidential by-elections. Sata filed the nomination papers hours after a court injunction was thrown away by the Lusaka High Court that sought to block the PF leader from filing his papers. PF Kasama Central MP Saviour Chishimba Monday applied for an injunction to restrain Sata from filing nomination papers. Chishimba said he was an interested and disadvantaged PF member who wanted to stand for the PF Presidency… that following the death of President Levy Mwanawasa, there was need to elect a new president and that the PF had to field a candidate of its choice in accordance with the provisions of its constitution. Three leaders have indicated their intention to stand for the 30 October presidential by elections. Others are acting president Rupiah Banda who will stand on the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) ticket and United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema who is scheduled to file his nomination papers Wednesday.
