DR Congo’s Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga Thursday tendered his letter of resignation to President Joseph Kabila, confirmed Congo’s National Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation (RTNC). “After almost half a century of fighting for the national cause and more than 600 days of exercising the function of prime minister and the head of government, I decided today to tender my resignation from this position to the President of the Republic, the head of state,” Gizenga was said to have written in his letter. His resignation came at a time when the country is going through several problems, including the resumption of war, in the country’s north-eastern part, near the border with Rwanda, between the army and rebels led by General Laurent Nkunda. Gizenga, aged 84, is also Secretary General of the United Lumumbist Party (PALU).
