Reacting to the recent fall in international oil pri ces, Mozambique’s publicly-owned airline, LAM, Saturday announced a fare reduction for its flights. According to a LAM press release, the price reduction is about 3 per cent on fares for all domestic and regional flights, effective from 25 September. It said the reduction was the result of a decision to cut the fuel surcharge demanded from each passenger by 17 per cent (or US$ 10). “We continue to bank on creating incentives and more attractive prices so that a larger number of people could benefit from the security, punctuality and comfortability that LAM offers,” said the company’s commercial director, Aderito Macaba. At the height of the speculation in oil in June, the price of a barrel of crude was about US$ 147. The latest figure for the barrel of oil from the New York Mercantile Exchange is just under US$ 107 a barrel.
