Two women carrying drugs arrested at Praia international airport

Police have arrested two Cape Verde women who arrived at Praia International Airport with nearly 5 kg of cocaine, police sources said on Monday. The women, aged 20 and 30, who arrived from the Brazilian city of Fortaleza on Sunday, concealed the drugs in their bags, police said. Cape Verde is one of the many countries in West Africa being used by international drug barons as transit points to smuggle drugs from Latin America to Europe. The barons recruit the youth as “mules” to smuggle the drugs with the promise of earning easy money. Drug trafficking, which affect many the West African countries, would be high on the agenda of a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States in Praia at the end of October.
