Mauritian authorities move to examine food products from China

The Mauritian authorities have asked all food importers from China, particularly those dealing in milk and milk products, to submit original Certificate of Analysis from an independent accredited laboratory from the country of origin of the product to the effect that such products are free from melamine. An official from the Health and Quality of Life Ministry in the Mauritian capital, said that the decision followed reports regarding the presence of melamine in milk and milk products originating from China. He said henceforth consignments of such food items would not be released by the Mauritius Revenue Authority/Customs in the absence of such a certificate. Furthermore, the authorities are working on other food additives that may put the health of consumers at risk.
