The Gambia has returned 101 citizens deported from Spain to the European country because it failed to abide by an agreement signed between the two countries on illegal migration. According to a press statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Banjul on Saturday, Spain did not give The Gambia prior information about the number of deportees, their time of arrival and flight. The press release said the 101 Gambians were deported to Banjul a week ago but upon arrival The Gambia authorities insisted that the deportees would not be allowed in. The flight was left stranded at the Banjul International Airport for hours before being asked to return the deportees to Spain. The release said the Spanish expressed surprise at the action of The Gambian authorities.
