An Egyptian husband, Ahmed Saleh, was killed by his wife’s brother after she had converted from Christianity to Islam and married Saleh. Saleh’s wife and child were also injured in the bizarre shooting. The wife, Miriam Atef Khella, 25, had her arm amputated as a result of being shot by her brother, Rami Atef Khella. She is expected to recover from the incident . The young couple’s nine-month old daughter, Nora, was also reportedly injured in the clash, although not seriously. Details of the shooting are still emerging, but initial accounts say the brother opened fire on the family at the doorway of their apartment building, firing nu m erous shots before escaping with the aid of his uncle, Raafat Khella. Egypt is not known for such killings, but with the rise in alleged sectarian ten sions over the past two years such acts are not surprising, say observers in the country. Saleh’s father has called for justice in the murder of his son. “I want justice for my son because he did nothing wrong. All he was guilty of was marrying the woman he loved,” the father told Al Dustour daily newspaper. He added that Miriam’s family had threatened to kill them after the two had been wedded.
