Ghana’s top security man Friday confirmed that an Israeli businessman has been kidnapped in the West African country and that efforts were being made to rescue him. Dr Sam Amoo, National Security Coordinator, gave no details of the victim’s name or his business, but said a taskforce comprising the various security agencies, set up under his office, had begun an intensive search for the man who was kidnapped last Sunday. He said the kidnappers contacted the relatives of the businessman in Israel and demanded a ransom of US$ 500,000 which was later reduced to US$ 300,000, the Ghana News Agency has reported. Amoo said the relatives of the man informed the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria, which also informed the Ghanaian security authorities. “The taskforce started investigations on Monday and it is working around the clo ck to free the businessman,” he said. Amoo described the kidnap as a criminal action as the gang had demanded a ransom.
