Benin’s President Yayi Boni, conducted a slight cabinet reshuffle, following the abandonment of cabinet portfolios by the G13 Alliance. The G13 Alliance, made up of dissident MPs in the parliament are in the majority, and decided that none of its members would join the cabinet “on the current political conditions.” G13 blamed Boni for his “disrespect for previous agreements” which allegedly led to a “lack of structural confidence between the political class and him.” With this, the President was left with no option than to conduct a technical cabinet reshuffle to replace the G13 ministers. According to a statement issued Saturday, the new entrants are Etienne Kossi, Sports and Recreation Minister, as a replacement for Valentin Aditi Houdé and Just in Adanmaï, Environment and Nature Conservation Minister, replacing Léon Comlan Ahossi. Benin’s cabinet, which was previously comprised of 26 members, now has 30 ministers, including four women.
