Pope Benedict XVI set to visit Cameroon and Angola in 2009

Pope Benedict XVI will visit Cameroon in March 2009 as part of an African tour which will also take him to Angola, a statement by Cameroon’s State House said here Monday. During the visit, which is his maiden tour to Africa, Pope Benedict XVI will att end the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Angola’s evangelisation and will meet with African missionaries on the second synod of bishops, slated for October 2009. He will also hand over to the representatives of African Bishops Conference, the working document of the 12th ordinary general assembly of Bishops Synod on the theme: “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church”. The meeting of bishops in October 2009 will be on the post-synodal apostolic exhortation of the church in Africa, on the theme: “The Church in Africa in Service to Reconciliation, Justice and Peace.” The event will follow the 14 September 1994 meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon, held under the coordination of Pope John Paul II and which led to the promulgation of ” Ecclesia in Africa”.
