Two employees of Ghana’s state-owned ‘Daily Graphic’ newspaper, reporter Mark-Anthony Vinorkor and photographer Samuel Tei Adano, were violently attacked by security personnel attached to Tema Development Corporation (TDC), the Accra-based media freedom watchdog (MFWA) said in a statement Tuesday. According to the MFWA, the incident occurred at ‘Community Four’ where the two had gone to cover a demolition exercise by a combined team of TDC guards and police officers to rid the town of illegal structures. The reporter was reportedly hit several times on the chest and slapped twice when he attempted to save the photographer from further attacks. The guards were said to have punched the photographer, damaging his camera in the process. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the TDC Guards has denied the attacks against the journalists and police officers attached to the Tema police station have launched an investigation into the incident.
