At least 25 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood movement were arrested by Egyptian police in the Nile Delta Saturday in the latest crackdown against the Islamic organisation. Security forces said they raided a member’s home in Faous in the eastern Nile Delta. On the Brotherhood’s official Website, the group confirmed that police had detained 25 of its members and called for their immediate release. Members of the group were holding a meeting in the home of Farid Ismail, its member in the Egyptian parliament, when police raided the venue, the Website reported. Since the Brotherhood won a surprise 20 per cent of seats in Parliament in 2005, the government has been uncomfortable over their growing power. Security forces have been pushing to restrict the movement of its leading members, including putting a number of them on trial.
