Morocco records highest number of Spanish nationals in its prisons

Morocco has the largest number of detained Spanish nationals in its prisons, followed by Brazil and Peru, the Moroccan media said Wednesday. Some 219 Spanish nationals, including 26 women, are allegedly serving sentences in different Moroccan prisons, said the media, noting that most of the prisoners were sentenced over drug trafficking cases. Half of the Spanish prisoners, most of whom were drivers of trucks on which cons iderable quantities of haschich were found, are jailed at Tanger prison, in the northern part of Morocco. The prison in Tetouan accommodates the largest number of Spanish prisoners with 49 detainees, followed by the jails in Ceuta (18), Nador (17), Casablanca (7), Rabat (6) and Agadir (1).
