Legendary singer Miriam Makeba’s remains billed to return to South Africa on Wednesday

South African Ambassador to Italy Lenin Shope has confirmed that the remains of South Africa’s legendary singer and Goodwill Ambassador Miriam Makeba were billed to return to her homeland from Italy later on Wednesday.
Also, Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosasana Dlamini Zuma, on behalf of President Kgalema Motlanthe, the cabinet, Ambassadors and High Commissioners based in foreign missions, the managements and staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs, has condoled with the family of the deceased. Meanwhile, the Proudly South African Campaign has said that Makeba will be remembered both for her legendary voice and patriotism. “She has, through her career and in her lifetime, championed the cause of human rights and democracy, helping to restore the pride and dignity of our people, through her music and through her example. ”Miriam Makeba will be sorely missed, but her legacy as a truly Proudly South African Ambassador will live on, also through the lives of everyone she has touched so deeply,” said Proudly South African Chief Executive Officer Manana Moroka. Funeral arrangements will be announced on Thursday. Makeba, 76, died of a heart attack on Sunday after performing at a concert in Italy.
