Football : Nigeria and Ghana clash at the African Women Championship

The much-awaited match between Nigeria and Ghana at the current African Women Championship ended 1-1 at the port city of Bata on Sunday. Defending champions Super Falcons of Nigeria and the Black Queens of Ghana, perpetual rivals in the competition, met in the opening match of group B, which also comprises South Africa and Tunisia, due to clash later in the day. In the opening match on Saturday, host Equatorial Guinea pipped Cameroonian 1-nil in group A. Eight countries are featuring in the competition, which is being held for the first time outside Nigeria or South Africa. They are defending champion Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon, Mali, Congo, Tunisia and host Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria’s Super Falcons have won all previous editions of the competition.
