Nigeria’s President Umaru Yar’Adua has ordered a probe of the alleged assassination attempt on the former head of the country’s anti-corruption agency, Nuhu Ribadu, the local press reported Tuesday. The probe will be conducted by a team comprising the Police, the State Security Service (SSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and others, the report said. Ribadu, a senior police officer, was reportedly shot at by unknown gunmen during a trip between the northern city of Jos, where he is currently attending a course, and the capital city of Abuja recently. He was not hurt in the shooting, taken to be an assassination attempt. Since his removal as the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under controversial circumstances, the much-celebrated anti-corruption fighter has remained in the news. Recently, he was demoted by the police authorities, forcing him to file a suit challenging the action.
