For the first time in the 10-year history of the African Women (football) Championship, Nigeria failed to qualify for the final of the competition when it lost 1-0 to host Equatorial Guinea Tuesday. Defending champion Nigeria has struggled throughout the competition, and barely made it past the group stage, where it tackled South Africa, Tunisia and arch-rival Ghana. Cameroon was billed to take on South Africa in the second semi-final of the 15-29 November competition. Nigeria has won every edition of the competition since it started in 1998.
