South Africa’s new party COPE set to shake ANC’s hegemony

A new party is set to shake South African ruling party’s 14 year hegemony in the country’s next elections is expected to take place between April and June, 2009. The new party launched Tuesday under the name, The Congress of The Peole, COPE, was formed following the forced resignation of former President Thabo Mbeki. COPE, which will become a major opposition, if it does not win the next elections, is expected to tackle the racial imbalance in South African politics.
