A cycling tour, open to both amateurs and the professionals, will cross Mali and Senegal next February, organisers have confirmed. The race, called “silent turn of solidarity”, is organised by the Italian Union Sport For All (UISPT), in collaboration with Bicyclettes of Italy in Africa, the NGO “Peace Games”, the Cyclist Federation and the Olympic and Sporting National Committee of Mali. The race will serve as a tonic for the development of cycling in Mali and Senegal and will be punctuated by solidarity actions in the localities to be crossed by the caravan. “It is much more about solidarity work through sports than sporting event”, explained a member of the UISPT, Massimo Tossini. The project was born from the will of the organisers to use “sports for all … a messenger of solidarity and co-operation between people”. It will help to achieve structures and the training of operators. Development projects will be reactivated or reinforced for the benefit of the people with the involvement of the local authorities.
