Nine players and two coaches died when the vehicle in which they were travelling had a head-on collission with another while they were returning from a football match in Pankshin council area of northern Plateau state on Sunday, the local press reported Tuesday. After the collission, the players’ vehicle overturned and caught fire, leaving the nine victims burnt beyond recognition.
Six other players survived the crash, even though they were badly burnt. The state commissioner for youth and sports, Mr. Joel Gwatau, confirmed the accident, saying the families of the victims were being contacted.
