South Africa can draw valuable lessons from China as it prepares to host the 2010 World Cup, according to KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele, who is meeting with the Beijing Olympics Organising Committee this week. Discussions have focused on the use of stadiums after the games, how the Chinese volunteers were recruited and trained and the involvement of government and the public sector in the Olympics. “We want to learn from your experiences – your pitfalls, your challenges,” said Ndebele. He Chuan, Deputy Director of the committee, expressed his confidence that South Africa would meet its obligations. “This was an important event for China as well as it will be for South Africa, as we are seen as developing countries,” he said.
