The military Joint Task Force (JTF) in Rivers state in Nigeria’s Niger Delta oil region has arrested Mr. Sobomabo Jackrick, whom it described as ”a notorious militant leader”. According to task force spokesman Sagir Musa, Jackrich was arrested at Buguma, headquarter of the Asari-Toru local council, at 8 p.m. local time on Sunday (28 Dec.). ”This is to confirm the arrest of a notorious militant leader in Rivers state, one Sobomabo Jackrich, also known as Ebri Papa of Jackrich compound in Buguma town,” he said Monday. Musa said the militant leader was arrested by troops of sector 5 of the task force in Buguma town without a single shot being fired or casualty recorded. He did not disclose where the militant leader was being held. Indications are that Jackrich’s arrest is in connection with the recent attack on Soku gas plant, operated by Shell in Degema local council, as well as piracy along the Cawthorne channel, a major sea route to the Bonny oil export terminal.
