The Banjul Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced a British couple, David and Fiona Fulton, to one-year imprisonment each in hard labour for sedition. The couple pleaded guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate Edrissa Mbai convicted it accordingly. The Fultons had initially denied the charges but changed their plea from not guilty to guilty on the last day of the trial. The Britons were said to have jointly printed, distributed, and reproduced seditious publications intended to cause hatred or contempt against President Yahya Jammeh and the Gambian government.
