The military Joint Task Force (JTF) deployed to Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta region to keep the peace has killed a notorious militant leader in Rivers state, Tubotamuno Angolia, also known as ‘Boy Chiki’, JTF spokesman Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa said Tuesday. Musa told journalists that JTF soldiers arrested the militant leader at Bakana, a riverine community in Degema local council in the state, and shot him dead when he tried to escape from his escorts. ”Today we succeeded in the arrest of one of the most wanted criminals in our list,” the JTF spokesman said. In December, JTF soldiers arrested Sobomah Jackrich, another wanted criminal. The activities of militants in the restive oil region have helped slash Nigeria’s oil production by 20 per cent.
