Madagascar: Rebels surround the residence of the Prime Minister

Dissident soldiers gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s residence Thursday demanding the appointment of a new prime minister from the ranks of the opposition leader Andry Rajoelina. The President Marc Ravalomanana called on the army and police to calm, and asked them to “assume their responsibilities” as a law enforcing body in the face of a crisis started by the deposed mayor, Andry Rajoelina.
