Mauritania: African Union contradicts Muammar Gaddafi and maintains sanctions against junta

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union Tuesday 24 March decided to maintain sanctions against the military junta in Mauritania, RFI said. The statement from the pan-African organization contradicts a recent declaration made by its current President, the Libyan head, Muammar Gaddafi on March 14. He had told the deposed president, Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, to accept a fait accompli while insisting that the issue of sanctions was “closed”.
