Faced with severe food shortages, rampant cholera and other diseases and lack of clean water, Zimbabwe will soon receive a US$10 million aid package from Sweden to tackle the crisis. Most schools and hospitals have also closed due to lack of funds to pay workers. Swedish officials said the country was considering resuming aid to Zimbabwe after it formed a unity government last month including the opposition. Last week, Denmark sent a government minister to Zimbabwe on a fact-finding mission, followed days later by another top official from Norway. It is reported that both officials said their governments were considering resuming aid to Zimbabwe. Australia became the first Western country early this month to resume aid to Zimbabwe, giving the country US$10 million.
